God Gathers Us
Call to Worship - Psalm 78:1-7
To be read aloud by someone in your home:
1 My people, hear my teaching;
listen to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth with a parable;
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
3 things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done.
5 He decreed statutes for Jacob
and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
to teach their children,
6 so the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children.
7 Then they would put their trust in God
and would not forget his deeds
but would keep his commands.
Opening Prayer
We start a new series this morning, looking at the foundational truths that Christians believe. The psalm above calls the people of God to remember and to teach what God has said and done, from one generation to the next. Remembering and proclaiming and teaching the truths of who God is, what He has done for us, and what He requires of us, is the work of all of the members of the church.
This morning, take a few moments to thank God for who He is and what He has done. Then pray for our church family, asking God to help us to teach and encourage one another, across the generations that make up our church family. Pray for some of the specific age groups in our church, that God would bless and encourage them.
