God Gathers Us
Call to Worship - Colossians 1:15-20
To be read aloud by someone in your home:
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Opening Prayer
The call to worship this morning comes from Colossians, a passage about what has been called “the Cosmic Christ”. The vision of Jesus here is BIG - He is the One through whom all things are made, and through whom all things on heaven and on earth can be reconciled to God. (Did you catch that? Reconciling all things?)
The Bible calls us to see everything in the light of the One who made it all, and who, in Christ, has worked to bring reconciliation to this fallen world.
As you start in worship, take a moment to thank God the gifts of His creation. Think about it; list them out; what has God given to you, by giving you life in this world He has made?
And then take a few moments to think about those things in our world, and in your life and in the lives of others around you, that need reconciliation - that need to be made right.
Then go to God in prayer, thanking Him for who He is and what He has done, and asking for His reconciling work in this world and in your life and the lives of those around you.
