God Gathers Us
Call to Worship - Psalm 13
To be read aloud by someone in your home:
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
Opening Prayer
This is one of the Psalms you read this week if you are reading through the bible in a year with us. For the next few weeks, we’ll be taking one of those Psalms and reading it again as we begin worship.
As you look at this Psalm, notice how honestly the Psalmist comes to the Lord - think of how bold the first couple questions are! (You might even think them disrespectful!).
But what the Psalmist is doing, is bringing the raw reality of his emotions and his life TO GOD. And then, in the presence of God, seeking help - “Give light to my eyes” - and reaffirming his trust - “But I trust in your unfailing love”.
As you come into worship, take a few minutes to bring the Lord the raw reality of your heart today. Whatever it is, God can handle it.
But don’t stop there. Read those last two verses again, and close in prayer by thanking God for His faithful work in your life, and His manifold goodness to you.

We encourage you to sing - make a joyful noise! If you play an instrument, play! If you have some favorite hymns or choruses, pick one or two and sing! Or make use of other technology to play some music, and listen and sing along.
Below are some hymns you can make use of if these would be a help to you.
